The Stuart Public Library has a few events left in August.

A big unique event that is sponsored by the People Active for Library Service will take place on August 26th. Guest speaker John Liepa will be at the library with his presentation “How Iowa Met Baseball: the Myths, the History, the Players.” Rachel Majerus with the library tells Raccoon Valley Radio what the event entails.

“This presentation explores the mystery of baseball’s origins, the early history and evolution of the game, baseball’s journey to Iowa and the role of the Civil War in spreading its popularity. It should be a really fun time, and I believe there might even be some baseball memorabilia that he’s going to be showing off.”

Some of the other ongoing programs include Cribbage and Coffee events on Tuesdays and Fridays, and Toddler Time on Thursdays, all beginning at 10am. There will also be a meeting of the poetry club on August 16th at 1pm, and a meeting of the Toastmasters International at noon on August 23rd.
