Now that the 2023 Iowa State Fair has come to an end, there are several Greene County residents that earned lots of awards.

Greene County 4-H’ers that competed in the livestock and other animal categories received lots of recognition. In the horses competition, Greene County 4-H’ers earned four first place finishes, including Briella McDonald who was the overall Grand Champion in Barrel Racing. According to Greene County ISU Extension, there were ten purple ribbons for sheep and four purple ribbons for swine.

As for the open class baking and cooking contests, Marianne Carlson of Jefferson was the continued highlight of the state fair. She earned three first place honors for her breads, an overall first place and $200 for the fruit pie division of the Pies from the Heartland contest; and three second places for various baking contests. Carlson won a total of $650 from the fair. Additionally, Muir Family Farms of Rippey took home three first place winners in beef.
