The Perry girls cross country team is getting set for their first meet this upcoming Thursday. The girls will participate at Gowrie Municipal Golf Course in the Southeast Valley Cross Country Invite. ACGC, East Sac County, Madrid, Ogden, Panorama, South Central Calhoun, Southeast Valley, and West Central Valley are among the teams that will be competing with one another at the meet. The Jayettes finished 8th in this meet a year ago, as they will look to improve on that come Thursday. Incoming junior Taryn Nehring had the best finish for the Jayettes as she placed 13th overall for Perry with a 23:18 5k time during the race. Junior Julie Maylum was the next closest Jayette who ran a 24:51 as she finished in 20th place overall. Amy Diaz, Natalie Castillo, and Mercedes Ponce were the next pack of Jayettes in that race from a year ago as well. Diaz and Castillo both finished together with a time of 26:56 and Ponce was right behind as she finished with a time of 27:19.
Nehring, Maylum, and Castillo will all be returning this year for the Jayettes. It is a young class for Perry as there isn’t a single senior on the 2023 roster. The gun will go off at 5 PM on Thursday at Gowrie Municipal Golf Course.
