
The Sunday Des Moines Register published its list of what it calls the Top 100 High School Football Players in Iowa and Greene County senior defensive lineman Michael Rumley is on that list at number 57. The 5′ 11″, 210 lbs. lineman played varsity football briefly as a freshman, and is starting his third year as a mainstay on the defensive front. He also plays in the offensive line.
Rumley had 15 tackles, one sack, and 3.5 tackles for loss as a freshman. He led Class 2A in tackles for loss as a sophomore when he earned All-State honors with 19.5 time he made a tackle behind the line of scrimmage. Rumley had 4.5 sacks among his 29 tackles in 2021. As a junior, Rumley had 22 tackles, 13.5 of those for a loss, and two sacks for a total of 66 tackles, 36.5 tackles for loss, and 7.5 quarterback sacks heading into his senior season. The Rams have gone 16-4 in his two seasons as a defensive starters with a pair of Class 2A District 8 titles.
Caden Duncan is the head coach of the Rams and he told Raccoon Valley Radio “Michael is an explosive and disruptive defensive lineman. Even though he’s usually not the biggest guy on the line, his quickness and strength can really make things difficult for offensive linemen.”
The Rams open the regular season his Friday at Carroll Athletic Field vs. the Carroll Tigers on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage starts at 6:30 p.m. with kickoff at 7 o’clock.
