An annual festival will be coming to Pattee Park in Perry to spread latino traditions and culture this weekend.

The Hispanics United for Perry (HUP) have put together “Viva Perry Latino Festival,” as a way to celebrate latino customs and culture in Perry from 10am until 7pm on Saturday. HUP President Rosa Gonzalez says that this festival is something the latino community in Perry takes pride in and looks forward to every year.

One of the reasons we do it is because we want to share the cultural traditions for the Latino culture to everybody in the community and surrounding areas. Right. It’s a way that we want to give back by sharing what we do, what we know.”

Gonzalez says there will be a lot of activities that will go on throughout the day, but they want to put an emphasis on the parade. She says the parade will start at 10am near the Hamlin Bell Apartments on 12th Street and make its way to Pattee Park. Gonzalez invites everyone to come watch the parade.

“Even if we have a good crowd that might be in the parade. We also want people to watch the parade. Then it’s like sometimes it’s because they are not aware since this is not something that happens every year, but it’s like sometimes we do it and then we stop. But this year we’re going to have a parade.”
