Due to the extreme heat, the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (IDHSEM) has released information concerning rolling blackouts.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the IDHSEM anticipates there to be rolling blackouts for the rest of today and possibly tomorrow because of the extreme hot temperatures and the power grid being overwhelmed. Williams points out that power can be suddenly lost anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours before the power comes back on.

Williams notes if you lose power you don’t need to contact your power company unless the outage lasts longer than a couple of hours. He says if you need air conditioning or somewhere to be cool and don’t have power to go to public areas such as libraries. Williams adds if someone needs electricity for medical reasons to make a plan to get to a generator if the need arises.
