The Jefferson City Council recently approved a change in a speed limit for a road within city limits.

The Council approved at its most recent August meeting the first reading, and waived the second and third required readings for final adoption, to reduce the speed limit on Westwood Drive from Linwood to Grimmell Road from 35 miles per hour to 25. City Administrator Scott Peterson says the change was made due to the Greene County School District announcing a limited number of bus stop locations due to driver shortages, which means more children will be walking to get to the bus pick up and drop off locations.

Peterson points out because the new speed limit will not take effect until August 31st, it is technically still 35 mph in that area. However, he asks for motorists to start getting into the habit now and there are warning signs in place to further educate the public. Peterson notes that just before the change in speed limit on Westwood Drive will be a bit faster speed.

“Anything to the west of Linwood actually is only partially in city limits, the south side is county. So county had set jurisdiction out there and speed limit is 45 mph. So yeah it’ll be bit of a change (and it) drops from 45 to 25 (mph).”
