The AC/GC Chargers were on the road Friday night, as they traveled to Earlham to face off against their district rival. Things started off well for the Chargers, as they grabbed an early 7-0 lead, but the Cardinals quickly came back and put up a score of their own, but were unable to secure the PAT as AC/GC senior Payton Jacobe made his way into the backfield and blocked the kick, keeping the Chargers in the lead 7-6.
The team then scored once again, in the second quarter, extending their lead to 14-6, but a well received kickoff turned into 8 more points for the Cardinals, and the teams went into halftime tied at 14-14. Neither team put up points in the third quarter, and AC/GC was able to make some points off of some good defensive plays. Junior Taytum Bates stripped the ball from the Cardinal running back, and the chargers were able to recover the ball, and later on the team was able to recover the ball of a kickoff, as it bounced and hit the returner for the Cardinals before falling to the ground again.
The defensive front was strong for the Chargers, as many of the players had 2-4 tackles, and senior Tegan Slaybaugh was able to pick up 7 of his own. On the offensive front, senior Michael Fuller started the game with several 5 yard rushes, and fellow senior Anthony Solorzano pieced together several good rushing attempts as well, putting in almost 100 rushing yards, while junior quarterback Jathan South picked up approximately 63 rushing yards of his own on QB keeps. The Chargers finished the game with a 28-14 victory, and will face off against conference and district rival the Panorama Panthers next Friday.
