Recently the Panorama High School and Middle School Student Councils volunteered to help feed those in need.
High School Student Council Advisor Kylee Boettcher says that she and Middle School Advisor Angie Clouser wanted to provide an opportunity for the students to interact with each other, and have the high schoolers act in a mentoring capacity. To do that, they decided to help with the Annual Hunger Fight’s Meals From the Heartland event. The groups traveled to Des Moines and spent two hours at Hy Vee Hall, with the 27 students and two advisors packing 4,032 meals in that time frame.
Boettcher says that the groups were mixed and then split between four tables, and the competitive spirit was brought to the surface, along with the high school students sharing about the things they enjoyed or liked about high school. She adds that the connections between the students exceeded her and Clouser’s expectation, and that they want to continue this opportunity for cooperation and growth between the students throughout the coming year. A list of the students that participated can be found in this story online.
