An event is coming up for pet owners in Greene County to take advantage of for identification purposes.

The People for Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) of Greene County is hosting a Microchip Clinic on Saturday from noon-3pm at the Greene County Animal Shelter, located at 1700 Doreen Wilber Drive in Jefferson. Cats and dogs can be brought to the shelter and have a microchip implanted, which is the size of a grain of rice, and has a unique identification number. If a pet owner loses their cat or dog, it has a microchip that can be scanned and the owner can be found quickly. All cats and dogs must be on leashes or in kennels for the clinic. The cost to get a microchip is $20.

PAWS President Ann Wenthold says they will also have one of their “open houses” happening at the same time, where anyone can adopt their available animals. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio one great source to see the cats and dogs that they have is through their Facebook page.

“We show our available animals, there’s a link to our petfinder website which has all the animals. We try to get pictures of recently adopted animals on there. I want to give a ‘shout out’ to our cat adopter. In the first three months of this year, she’s adopted 18 cats out. She’s done an awesome job. It’s not easy and there’s a lot of work involved with adoptions and it’s really good.”

Appointments are encouraged for the Microchip Clinic and to schedule a time, contact PAWS via their Facebook page or by email, which both can be found below. Walk-ins are welcome, but there might be a short wait.
