The Greene County Board of Supervisors addressed last week’s closure of the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower.

Following a lengthy discussion of the standing-room only boardroom at their meeting Monday morning, the Board unanimously approved a motion to authorize the county auditor to open the bell tower, at their discretion, and appoint volunteers to facilitate the operations of the tower, with those individuals being under the supervision of the auditor.

County Auditor Billie Jo Hoskins said at the meeting that her designee is Pat Richards and the volunteers with her as the case was before last week’s closure. Richards is the Tour Coordinator with the Bell Tower Community Foundation and her staff are paid and are trained. The bell tower was opened immediately following the supervisors meeting. The closure was determined by Hoskins last Thursday following an alleged incident that violated a county policy regarding using colored lights on the bell tower during a weekday.
