The Dallas County Conservation will encourage the public to join them in catching and releasing monarch butterflies.

Outreach Coordinator Sarah McKeever says that the “On Call Monarch Tagging,” will take place when the Monarch Butterflies are migrating through the area. She says there will be two tagging events including tomorrow and Thursday from 3:30 to 5pm at Kuehn Conservation Area in Earlham. McKeever says they will catch the butterflies with nets and tag them for a scientific project. .

“The little stickers that we tag them with, have some codes on them that refer to our location. So if they’re found down in central Mexico where they are headed, then we know that they came through our park and we have had monarchs that came through our park, found down in Mexico before, and they call us and let us know. So it’s just really great.”

This is a free event, but attendees are welcome to register.
