The City of Jefferson is reminding residents of a few different maintenance items.
Jefferson Building and Zoning Official Chad Stevens says the city offers a sidewalk reimbursement program to make repairs and replace existing sidewalks. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio the program is through a reimbursement basis of up to $5 per square foot of concrete. He points out a resident can get an estimate from the contractor, have them do the project, then submit an application for reimbursement.
“We would really like to see a lot of new sidewalks in town. They are trip hazards and in the winter time a nice new level sidewalk is a whole lot easier to remove the snow from.”
Stevens notes there is a separate line item for sidewalk projects and there is no maximum amount for reimbursements.
Additionally, Stevens reminds residents about tree trimming, in the right of way, over the sidewalk.
“The trees are supposed to be trimmed at least ten foot above the sidewalk and that is the homeowner’s responsibility to make sure that those are trimmed. So that pedestrians have safe passage when they’re out and about.”
Stevens adds the only time that the city gets involved with this regulation is if the tree is dead in the right of way.
