The last four times varsity football teams from Saydel and Jefferson (JSPC or Greene County) have faced each other, the results were heavily in favor of the Rams. The teams will be playing on the Eagle’s hoe field on Friday night in Saydel’s Homecoming game to being play in Class 2A District 8 and the Eagles appear to be improved from the last time these teams met in 2020.

The Eagles are 1-2 with a victory over East Marshall (Le Grand) and losses to Storm Lake and Colfax Mingo. That alone is an improvement for a program that did not win a game in 2018, ’19, ’21 and ’22. The offense is averaging 27 points a game and the defense is giving up 28, both much better than the last two years.

Greene County has done well the last two weeks with victories in Jefferson vs. Perry (55-14) and Atlantic (41-6) after a season opening loss (20-0) at Carroll. Coach Caden Duncan’s team has won the last two District 8 titles and went 5-0 both in 2021 and ’22. In fact, Greene County teams have won 13 straight district football games dating back to the middle of the 2020 season…

Friday’s game starts at 7 p.m. on KG98 and streaming on www.racccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.
