Bonnie Silbaugh served as Board President for the past two years

The filing deadline is approaching for the upcoming city and school board elections in November.

The Greene County School Board has two open seats this year and current School Board President Bonnie Silbaugh, whose seat is not up for election, encourages anyone with a willingness to volunteer and has a passion for students and teachers to run for school board.

“I don’t think you need to run just because you want to see change or you need to see something be different. I think it’s something that you just to have a willingness to spend your time talking to people. And really just learning more of what a school board’s role is, because there is a lot of kind of legislative and different twists and things that you need to pay attention to and some rules. You do not have to know anything in particular, you just need to have some time, and some patience, and just be willing to serve.”

According to the Greene County Auditor’s Office, individuals seeking to be on the ballot for Greene County School Board need at least 50 signatures and for Paton-Churdan School Board, at least ten signatures. Nominations must be submitted to the respective school district’s school board secretary by 5pm on September 21st.

As for city elections, there are two Jefferson City Council seats as well as the mayor seat up for election and individuals must get a minimum of 25 signatures to be on the ballot. All other mayoral or city council elections in Greene County must have at least ten signatures. Nominations must be submitted to the Greene County Auditor’s Office no later than 5pm on September 21st.
