The harvest season in Iowa is off and running which can put stress on farmers.
ISU Extension Central Iowa Field Agronomist Meaghan Anderson says that normally harvest season is the busiest time for farmers and they often work endless hours in dust along with the changing climate. Anderson explains that farmers need to be getting enough sleep, take frequent breaks and don’t skip meals.
“I think from a farmer’s perspective, getting as much rest as they possibly can. Making sure that they’re eating. I know that that can be something that people just kind of forget to do when you’re sitting in the tractor or the combine for very long hours. It’s good to just make sure you’re eating it at a good interval. You’re getting as much sleep as you possibly can.”
Anderson also encourages farmers to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and avoid drinks with added sugar.
