The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During reports, County Attorney Thomas Laehn said he sent a draft of a 28E agreement to the Bell Tower Community Foundation to review. He pointed out that a finalized version will be presented to the Board. Laehn mentioned that the Iowa Supreme Court has mandated that not only is it a requirement for each county courthouse to have a security committee, but to also conduct a bi-annual security survey. Laehn said they have had a committee established for a few years and will abide by the new requirement of a survey.
County Information Technology Director Michelle Fields requested to move forward to establish options for the supervisors to be contacted through the phone number that is listed on the county’s website. She said for an additional $4 per month with their phone carrier, they can add each supervisor as an option once someone dials the general supervisors phone number on the website. The Board agreed to move forward.
County Engineer Wade Weiss also gave an update. He presented the Board with a cost estimate to rent a crane and have the Virden Company replace coils on some of the bells on the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower. He also mentioned trying to re-configure the bell structure and have the outside bells placed inside the structure to prevent further issues from happening and minimize maintenance of the bells.
The Board then approved the lease renewal for the Lincoln Highway Interpretative Site in Grand Junction for another five years, with no changes. The Board also approved hiring Brenda Seaman as a part time employee of the ambulance department at the paramedic level.
Finally, the Board had a discussion regarding creating a new committee to review the lighting policy for the bell tower. The Board decided to wait until there was approval of the 28E agreement with the Bell Tower Community Foundation first and then establish the committee.
