The Stuart People Active for Library Service will be hosting their monthly event at the Stuart Public Library soon.
PALS member Carol Brewer says that on September 30th at 10am, they will have an author presentation by Beth Hoffman, author of “Bet the Farm: The Dollars and Sense of Growing Food in America.” Brewer tells Raccoon Valley Radio why Hoffman, along with her husband, decided to write the book.
“Their thought was, ‘We want to present farming to produce food in a way in which the farmer doesn’t always come out on the losing end, where he’s always borrowing money in the spring for the summer season, buying new equipment if he needs to, to farm that land, and then in the fall, if the prices are up, then they don’t get the money back, and then they have to pay back the loans, and then they’re behind.’ And she kind of mentioned it like a treadmill type of thing, that you just keep going, doing the same thing over and over.”
Brewer mentions that the PALS have purchased some books for the event, and that they can be purchased at the library for $25. She adds that after the presentation, Hoffman will sign books, so everyone should bring their copies with them to the event.
