Iowa Congressman Zach Nunn has orchestrated bipartisan legislation to freeze Russia assets and save the American taxpayer.
The “Protect Taxpayers and Defeat Russia Act,” was introduced by Democrat US Congressman Steve Cohen and Congressman Nunn to redirect Russian assets that were seized when Russia invaded Ukraine. Nunn says he is a supporter of Ukraine and believes the war is unjust. Nunn mentions that he does not want an unlimited number of American taxpayer money going to an undefined conflict that the Biden Administration does not have a grip on. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the United States has done this before after 9/11.
“It’s something that we did during the first days of nine divided by 11 when we seized terrorist assets and we made sure that that money won, never went back to the terrorists and could be used to compensate families, including those who were victims of nine divided by 11. Moving forward with my bill, we’re looking at doing the exact same thing to Russian autocrats.”
Nunn says redirecting the frozen funds from the Russian oligarchs should cover the costs of American taxpayers and the rebuild of Ukraine. He is afraid that if the United States keeps on funding Ukraine with military aid that it will cause an increase in inflation in America and cause more death and destruction in Ukraine.
