Many small game hunting seasons have begun, but another is coming up.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer for Guthrie County Jeremy King tells Raccoon Valley Radio about the upcoming waterfowl season.

“September 30th through October 1st will be youth waterfowl season. So kids under the age of 16 can go out and they can shoot their own limit of ducks and geese on that day. Canada Goose season opens September 30th as well, so if you’re an adult and you’re in an area where you can shoot Canada Geese, you can shoot Canada Geese, as well as the youth, and the youth can shoot ducks. So it’s a great opportunity to get people outside and start thinking about the fall and wait for those crisp, cool mornings.”

King mentions that the seasons begin this weekend, because Guthrie County sits in the Central Zone for the state. The South and North Zones will have different season start times, as waterfowl continue their migration south, so hunters need to make sure that they know what zone they are in when hunting.
