Guthrie County Hospital (GCH) Foundation, in conjunction with the hospital, are bringing back a fun twist on an old favorite event.
GCH Foundation is holding a 5k Color Run on Saturday. GCH Foundation Director Dennis Flannery says that they and the hospital used to hold a 5k every year, but haven’t had one for a few years now, and decided to bring it back. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio why they decided to have it be a color run as well.
“So we wanted to bring back a 5k run, promoting fitness in the county and hopefully generate a little bit of fun. But we have a few people that had participated in color runs and thought that would be a good idea to probably bring one here and just see how it goes. So really, it’s just trying to do something different that hasn’t been done around here and we’ll see how it goes. We’re hoping that the 5k will remain an annual event, whether it’s a color run in the future or not, but we would kind of like it to stay along that theme, I guess, if we can.”
Flannery mentions that for those that don’t wish to be part of the color run, but still want to participate in the 5k, just let registration staff know, and they’ll be able to help. There are two registration times, tomorrow from noon to 5pm, and Saturday from 8:30-9am, when the Run/Walk begins. Flannery adds that there is also a 1k Run/Walk for those 12-years old and under, that will begin right after the 5k. He mentions that the 5k is for all ages, and the registration fee for those 18-years old and under is $25, while for those 19 and older the fee is $40 if registered by the end of the day tomorrow.
For those registering on event day, the registration fee will be $50. Individuals interested in participating can register by going to the the GCH Foundation web page at guthriecountyhospital.org/foundation. Proceeds from the event will go to helping with some projects in the physical therapy and rehab department.
