The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Community School District has been raving about the accomplishments of their marching band.

The ADM Marching Band opened up their competition season on September 22nd at the North Central Iowa Marching Band Invitational. In that contest, the Tigers took home the first place trophy for Class 3A and also recognized for best marching, best color guard, and best woodwind section. Caleb Oelberg was also selected as the best soloist on the trombone. Advisor Russell Braun says this was the first time ADM has ever won a marching band competition. Braun notes that they were a point away from being crowned grand champion of the competition. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that his students were thrilled with this achievement.

Kids were super ecstatic and we ended up taking a whole bunch of great pictures out on the field and most of them came home and they screamed so much that they had lost their voice. So it was a super exciting night.”

The ADM High School Marching Band then placed third in the Urbandale Marching Band Invitational this past weekend. Braun says they had to fight the hot temperatures, but their performance was really good.

“Our goal obviously was to move up in rankings and we ended up accomplishing that. So they were pretty excited about it. All in all, I think they’re now starting to see, you know, the moments where they really can really create some beautiful music.”

The ADM Marching Band will now get ready for their next competition which will be at the Iowa high school state marching band competition on October 14th in Waukee.
