Greene County Public Health is encouraging individuals to get a flu vaccination.

Director Becky Wolf says flu vaccines are available now and she describes the importance of why people should get a flu shot.

“It may not prevent you from getting that type of virus, but the purpose of it is to prevent you from getting complications. Like having complications where you’re having pneumonia, maybe you end up in the hospital, or God forbid you end up on a ventilator, or you die. So those are the things that you have to remember with respiratory illnesses like flu and covid.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) there were about 54 million cases of the flu and 58,000 flu-related deaths in the United States last flu season. Wolf points out there have also been upticks in covid and RSV cases as well.

Greene County Public Health is continuing to provide vaccination clinics on Tuesdays from 9am to noon and Thursdays from 1-4pm. Wolf adds there is a waiting list of individuals to get the new covid vaccine and she encourages individuals to sign up for the waiting list and their staff will work through that list once the covid vaccine is available. Scheduled appointments for these clinics are appreciated and there will be a drive-thru flu vaccine clinic on October 18th from 3-6:30pm at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds.
