A building will soon be coming down in the Greene County School District.
The Greene County School Board approved at its September meeting a $69,450 bid from Murphy’s Construction to demolish the former district office building. Superintendent Brett Abbotts says this bid was the lowest of three, which included $188,000 and $180,000.
“The lowest bid also comes from who I honestly believe is going to be the highest quality there too with Murphy Construction. Murphy Construction has done a number of different projects for the school district in the past. We know the service and the quality of what we’re going to get and the communication. So it was really kind of a no-brainer to partner up with Andy (Murphy) again and let him kind of finally see this project to finality.”
Abbotts points out the building is expected to be torn down and the ground leveled off by the end of this month and then the property automatically gets sold to its neighbor, The Children’s Center, for $1. The Children’s Center Board President Bill Monroe says that area will have another playground installed, but for the older children to use.
“It’ll have a basketball hoop and more age-appropriate toys for them. In the meantime, we’ve been going to the Russell Park some, and there’s still a playground next to (the) South Grade (building) that we’ve been using too.”
Monroe says the playground directly to the west is for the younger children from newborns to second and third graders.
