A Monroe man was recently sentenced for drunk driving in Greene County.
According to court documents, 40-year-old Joseph Gilpin pled guilty to lesser charges of an aggravated misdemeanor for his second offense for an OWI and a serious misdemeanor for driving while barred. He had all but 30 days of a prison sentence suspended and was additionally placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Corrections.
The charges stem from an incident that happened on June 13th. An Iowa State Trooper stopped Gilpin for speeding on Highway 30 near Reuter’s Red Power in Grand Junction. The trooper noticed Gilpin had watery and bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and seemed confused about where he was.
Court documents show that Gilpin was also ordered to pay over $4,000 in fines, surcharges, court-appointed attorney fees and court costs. As per the plea agreement, Gilpin had the Class D Felony charge for his 3rd or subsequent offense of an OWI amended to the aggravated misdemeanor and a simple misdemeanor for speeding was dismissed.
