The entire Paton-Churdan student body, along with staff and community members joined together Wednesday for a special event.
Wednesday was the Healthiest State Initiative where groups, organizations and businesses across the state walked together in support of each other’s health. The Paton-Churdan School District and the Churdan Public Library have been doing this tradition together since 2011 and P-C Principal Annie Smith explained why their school continues to partner with the library for this kind of endeavor.
“It’s always great whenever we can partner with the community and just do events together as a whole town. It’s fun to be able to have that interaction, it’s another opportunity for our older kids to partner with our younger kids. But then again, just the reason behind it, (with) the healthy, I think we want to promote that and getting out, even if it’s just for like a short walk like we’re doing around town just to show kids and the community that they can do it and it just takes just a short amount of time but it’s just good to get up and get moving.”
According to the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative, there was at least one organized walk that happened in all of Iowa’s 99 counties on Wednesday.
