Greene County has not one, but two high school sports competing today and tonight at Saydel High School in Des Moines. Coach Jeff Lamoureux’s cross-country runners compete this afternoon on the Saydel school grounds, then tonight it’s Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Greene County volleyball team visiting the Eagles.
The volleyball Rams are 12-10 on the season and 3-2 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play while the Eagles are 0-5 in the league and 1-17 overall. The Rams were in action on Tuesday night in Jefferson and came away with a three set sweep of conference opponent West Marshall (State Center).
The cross-country runners ran in Lake City on Tuesday at the South Central Calhoun meet. Today’s meet at Saydel is the fourth in nine days for the Rams, and Greene County will host the HOIAC meet on Monday, Oct. 9 in Jefferson on the middle school grounds. The conference meet will have middle school and high school races for both girls and boys.
