Tomorrow is the day Class 3A and 4A cross-country teams and individuals across Iowa have State Qualifying Meets. Class 1A and 2A meets will be held Thursday. Greene County has been assigned to a 3A Coed Meet northeast of Winterset at Lakeview Golf Course. The top 15 individuals and top three teams for both girls and boys will qualify for the Coed State Meet at Kennedy Park north of Ft. Dodge, which is Oct. 27 for 1A and 4A qualifiers, and Oct. 28 for those in 2A and 3A. Something new this year is that each qualifying meet will have five individuals make it to State that aren’t from qualifying teams. That could mean 16 or more individuals could make it to Ft. Dodge.

Jeff Lamoureux is the head coach of the Rams. He told Raccoon Valley Radio the Rams ran at the course near Winterset three years ago and senior Kolby Angell is the lone Greene County runner on the team now that ran the course back then. “The course is fairly hilly, which can be challenging, and we haven’t run a lot of hills this season.” The coach added that three boys teams and a number of individuals that are ranked by the Iowa Track Coach & Officials Association will be in the field. Greene County will field a boys’ team, but will have just three girls competing, which is not enough for a team score.  Racing starts at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
