It was quite the journey for his first two years in a Perry XC uniform to get to this point, but Yonas Andemichael will finally represent the Perry Bluejays in the state championship cross country meet tomorrow at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge. Andemichael qualified for the state meet in the state qualifier a week ago at Pella Sports Park with an impressive time of 16:48:87. Andemichael is currently a junior for the Bluejays. It took a lot to get to the state meet, dating back to his freshman year days. Yonas took 48th in the state qualifier meet back in 2021 his freshman year with a time of 19:27. Yonas’s brother Fithawi actually came close to qualifying that year as he put up a time of 17:35 and came in 17th in that same meet. Remember the top 15 qualify for state every year in that state qualifier meet. Andemichael was of course only a freshman in that meet and has improved a lot since then. A season ago, he put up a time of 17:12:49 in the 2022 qualifier as well. That was good for 18th place as he just missed the cut for state. This season of course was finally the breakout for Yonas, putting up the 16:48:87 time last week.
The race will begin at 2:45 tomorrow from Fort Dodge. You can catch results after the meet is over on KDLS and on our website at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
