Greene County’s 2023 football season didn’t unfold the way head coach Caden Duncan, his staff, and players had hoped. A 3-5 overall record was the first time in the five seasons Duncan has been the coach that the Rams didn’t win at least seven games. This was also the first time since 2017 the Rams weren’t in the playoffs.

An outstanding senior class was plagued by injuries and other issues. It’s a group Duncan says will certainly be missed, but the cupboard isn’t bare. “We played a lot of young kids this year, which means we have a number of guys that got varsity experience. I didn’t think our tackling was quite where it needs to be, and we’ve already talked about that with the players and will continue to emphasize that into our offseason program.”

The top two teams from Class 2A District 8 are in action tonight. Champion Kuemper Catholic hosts Clarinda in the Round of 16 at Carroll Athletic Field, while Roland-Story (Story City), second in District 8, makes the long trip to undefeated and top ranked Central Lyon/George-Little Rock.
