The next Congressional spending bill deadline is fast approaching.
With an end date of November 17th, US Senator Joni Ernst says there isn’t much time to get all the appropriations bills passed that they need to.
“If you look at trying to move those bills individually, there is no time. Each bill takes approximately two weeks to do in the Senate. And if you want to move all of those bills individually, that means we would be going through 24 weeks nonstop, because there’s 12 spending bills to get done.”
Ernst mentions that while many are worried about a partial government shutdown, even a temporary one, she believes that they can get enough bills passed to push the deadline back once again, like what happened earlier this year. She adds that with the current Farm Bill also having expired, she agrees with her counterpart Senator Chuck Grassley on extending the bill for another year, so that there is more time to finish the newest and updated version.
