Noah Hinote, a junior at Greene County High School, ran on Saturday in frigid conditions at the Class 3A boys’ portion of the Coed State Cross-Country Championships north of Ft. Dodge at Kennedy Park. The lone Greene County runner to qualify placed 87th in a field of 133 runners with a five kilometers (3.1 miles) time of 17 minutes 27.9 seconds. This was Hinote’s second State Cross-Country Meet after he qualified in 2A as a sophomore. In addition, his time was a personal best, which says something given the cold and wind.

Greene County’s head coach is Jeff Lamoureux. He told Raccoon Valley Radio he is very proud of Noah’s effort. “Conditions weren’t ideal and it was much colder than we’ve been accustomed to this season with a pretty brisk wind. For Noah to set a PR (personal record) is a great accomplishment!”

Hinote qualified for State from the Winterset State Qualifying meet, which finished with three of the top seven teams in a field of 15. Lewis Central (Council Bluffs)  was third, Winterset sixth, and Glenwood seventh.
