The Stuart People Active for Library Service (PALS) are preparing for their final hosted speaker for the year.

PALS Member Carol Brewer says that they will be bringing in OJ Fargo, a historian who has vast experience with the history of Iowa and the western US, especially when it comes to the Civil War. He will be performing a presentation based on the Civil War on Saturday beginning at 10am, and PALS Member Kathy Johnson tells Raccoon Valley Radio she’s looking forward to it.

“I’m so excited to have another person who reenacts because we’ve had some great people here who’ve acted out a scene or something. From, like, Ulysses S. Grant and Henry Agar Wallace and some others. And I’m a critical thinker, and I don’t get carried up with stuff, but I totally got lost in their stories and it was a great experience to just enjoy their story. To enjoy being a part of history.”

Besides being a historian on the Civil War, Fargo is a reenactor as well, and performs different battles from the war with other people who share an interest in doing so. His performance will include him dressing up as a Union soldier, telling about what it was like for soldiers during the war, and answering questions as the Union soldier. Johnson and Brewer add that Fargo also will be bringing some memorabilia and artifacts, and also has a digital database of Civil War soldiers from Iowa that people can use to try and find out if they had any ancestors serve at that time.
