
Dallas Center – Grimes boys and girls cross country participated in their state meet last Friday and were able to find some strong team results in the 4A meet. The girls were able to finish 3rd, with 126 team points. While the boys 7th with 215 team points. Both teams finished in the upper half of the 16 team boys field and the 15 team girls field.
On the girls side, they were led by freshmen Piper Messerly who had a time of 18 minutes and 10 seconds, which was good for a 6th place finish. The Mustangs also found top 20 finishes from juniors Emily Meyers and Maddy Stevens, with Meyers finishing 18th with a time of 18 minutes 47 seconds and Stevens 19th with a time of 18 minutes 48 seconds. Rounding out the scoring for DCG was Addison Dooley who finished 44th with a time of 19 minutes 20 seconds, and Abbey Angus, who finished 52nd with a time of 19 minutes 28 seconds.
Senior Jack Every was able to led the boys in his final race, gathering a 22nd place finish with a time of 16 minutes 2 seconds. Junior Elias Arbuckle was closely behind with a 26th place performance and a time of 16 minutes 4 seconds. The rest of the scoring for DCG came from Colin Mandernach who finished 50th with a time of 16 minutes 28 seconds, AJ Angus 66th at 16 minutes 27 seconds, and Cael Ramsey who was 75th with a time of 16 minutes 43 seconds.
Dowling Catholic was able to win the 4A boys team title with 72 points and Johnston won the 4A girls team title with 215 points. Addison Dorenkamp won the girls title in 4A with a time of 17 minutes and 41 seconds, while Ethan Zuber of Ankeny was the winner of the boys with a time of 15 minutes 7 seconds.
The boys will be losing three senior runners from that race in Every, AJ Angus, and Alex Pries. The girls will lose Abbey Angus. Both teams are expected to field very good rosters again next fall.
