The Perry High School Drama Department is inviting the public to this weekend’s fall play.
Director Randy Peterson says the play is based on a book by Jules Verne called, “Around the World in 80 Days.” Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio this is an adventurous story of a bet that an individual could race around the world from London, England in just 80 days. Senior Riley Sergent is one of the leading roles as Phileas Fogg and he explains why he auditioned for the play.
“I auditioned because I found the show interesting and I found some of the characters very funny, and I thought that the comedy spoke to me in how it was written. I enjoyed the betrayal of the main characters and it didn’t matter to me which role I got because I found them all really funny and interesting.”
Senior Maddy Hollingsworth describes the challenges she overcame with her character, the villain, Detective Fix.
“It’s hard to portray being a female myself going into a male character and doing such a big role, and portraying myself as a bigger entity. Because I have all these exaggerated movements and these like yelling and stuff in this play that makes it so fun. So it’s just hard like doing some of that stuff.”
Peterson points out there are a total of 44 cast and crew members involved in the show, with 19 cast members playing 35 characters. The performances are on Friday and Saturday at the Perry Performing Arts Center at 7pm. Tickets are $6 each and can be purchased at the high school main office or at the door.
