ADM’s cross country boys’ team officially finished their season last Saturday, competing in the Class 3A division. This young team has been steadily gaining valuable experience, having participated in the state championships for the past two years. Coach Josh Chapman emphasized the importance of this journey, stating, “We definitely had our highs and lows. It was a good season.”
The season presented its fair share of challenges, with one of their athletes dealing with a stress fracture during the summer. Coach Chapman acknowledged the mental toughness of his team, mentioning, “we had a lot of growth, not just in times but in mental strength and competitiveness…those guys are just on the fringe of Varsity.” The focus wasn’t just on improving times but also on building mental strength and competitiveness.
ADM’s consistent qualification for state championships has provided athletes with the opportunity to learn and grow. Coach Chapman highlighted the significance of this, saying, “Always good when you can qualify year after year because it gives the athlete an opportunity to learn and grow.” While some athletes may have wished for better results at the recent state meet, it’s seen as a chance to reflect and improve for the future.
This season saw a dedicated senior group, and Coach Chapman had high praise for them. “We only had three of them, but these three were hardworking, good leaders… We’ll definitely miss them.” The team’s seniors, included Tom Hook, Hunter Landphair, and Sam Peters. Looking ahead, the team’s focus is on continuous growth to return to the state championships in the coming years.
