Families and community members in the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District should get ready to turn back the clock on this week’s high school fall musical.

Director Molly Longman is excited to bring to the stage a Broadway classic of “Guys and Dolls.” She tells Raccoon Valley Radio this musical has been on a short list for a few years after doing “The Secret Garden” and “Freaky Friday.” Longman points out one of the reasons for doing this Broadway show tune is to give the students a wide variety of musicals and she felt it was also the right time.

“This show puts a stronger demand on our guys right, our male performers, because there are more principal leads and a really strong male ensemble that’s needed to pull it off. And we had a few years where we talked about this show but did not really have those strengths. But we’ve got some wonderful underclassmen coming up, we’ve got some really strong upperclassmen leadership that has come a long way. So we decided it was time to put this one on the stage.”

“Guys and Dolls” is the 1950s story of Nathan Detriot and his never ending quest for a safe place to host the “Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York.” Longman is also grateful for the continued support including fundraising by the students and donations from the community, to the parents for set building and the Fine Arts Boosters.

“If there’s a chance to reach out and really thank the community for what they have done so far to support this show, even before we opened. And then just an early shoutout to them for coming in and filling the seats because that’s really the last thing these kids need is their community cheering them on and all the applause we can get for all of their months and months of hard work.”

Performances are tonight and Saturday at 7pm, and Sunday at 2pm at the high school auditorium. Tickets are $6 for students and $10 for adults. Each show is about 2.5 hours with a 15-minute intermission. Vocal Director Becca Cassel is the music director and Cindy DePond is the assistant director.  Click the link below to purchase tickets and the full cast and crew list can also be found below.
