Greene County High School kicker Nathan Behne (Bay-nee) has a goal of kicking a football for a college or university team, and he’s certainly put the work in to get to this point in his career. A student of Kohl’s Kicking Camps run for former Iowa State kicker Jamie Kohl, Behne is a nationally ranked high school kicker who is constantly looking to move up the recruiting ladder. He was at a ranking camp in Dallas in October after Greene County’s season ended.

Kickers and other specialists don’t always get the same attention or scholarship offers that line of scrimmage position players do, so it can be a waiting game of sorts. Behne has heard from colleges and he took a game day visit at Iowa State earlier this season and has another scheduled when the Cyclones host Kansas this Saturday night. He was at the U. of North Dakota last Saturday, so schools certainly know who he is.

Going six for nine of field goal tries in eight games this season for Greene County should help draw attention to his kicking leg. Playing on natural grass, he put the ball through the uprights from 49, 44, 42, and 39 yards this season, and he made every extra point kick except those that were blocked. There were touchbacks on 25 of Behne’s 43 kickoffs, and many of those that didn’t reached the end zone came close. He even punted for a 36.9 average when called upon.
