With the Ames State Qualifying Swim meet taking place this upcoming Saturday for the Perry Jayettes,  I thought it would a good idea to recap the type of season that the Jayettes have had in the pool. This is a Jayettes team that got off to a red hot start right out of the gate to start the season as they started out 8-0 overall. That was the best start for a Perry swimming team in the history of the program.

It all started on August 24th, when the Jayettes hosted Algona for their first meet of the season. Perry won that matchup 105-59. Quinn-Mahler Moreno and Sophia McDevitt won 2 gold medals for the Jayettes in that meet. Mahler-Moreno finished in 1st in the 200 M freestyle in that race with a time of 1:59:76. McDevitt won the 100 M backstroke as she had a time of 1:11:13 in the meet as well.  The Jayettes then traveled to Indianola where they took on the Indianola Indians. They won that meet 90-80 to move to 2-0 on the season. Perry then had two different triangular meets the next couple of weeks. They finished first place in the Hoover Girls Swim Triangular on August 31st. They moved to 4-0 on September 5th after winning the Boone Varsity Swim Meet as well. The Jayettes after those two triangular meets went on to face Indianola and Algona is two more head to head meets which were both at the McCreary Community Center. They won both of those 83-77 and 91-64. That was good enough to push their record to the 8-0 mark. Perry finally got their first loss of the season when they finished in 2nd in the Fort Dodge Triangular on September 21st.

The 8-0 start though will always be a memorable part of the Jayettes 2023 season in the pool. They have a magnitude of positives to take into the state qualifier on Saturday. Stay tuned for more coverage regarding the Perry swim team as we move closer to Saturday on KDLS and on our website online at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
