Tonight is the final opportunity for the public to attend this year’s fall play with the Perry High School Drama Department.

The play, “Around the World in 80 Days” is based on the book by Jules Vern. It is about a bet that an individual could race around the world, starting and ending in London, England; in just 80 days. Senior Alexa Nelson plays the role of Passeportu, a Frenchman who has already traveled the world and wants to relax but gets roped into the adventure with his friend, Phileas Fogg, who is played by Riley Sergent. Nelson describes the most difficult part about the character she plays.

“Well the biggest challenge is portraying my character as French being a Midwest person. It’s quite difficult for me. I have struggled a lot with the accent. It is hard sometimes still to portray original nationality. But it’s pretty fun to have this whole different identity in this character you get to portray.”

Director Randy Peterson says there are 44 students involved in the show, both cast and crew. He talks about the coordination to make this production happen with such a large number of students.

“Well it’s kind of chaotic at times. There’s lots of kids going in all different in directions and trying to do different things here. But honestly the kids are doing a really good job with it. I have a really good group of students this year that have really been really working hard on it. So that has helped immensely.”

Tonight’s performance is at 7pm at the Perry Performing Art Center. Tickets are $6 each and can be purchased at the door.
