One Greene County High School teacher continues an effort to invite students to begin one of their rights as citizens which is to vote.
Government teacher Crystal Crichton says every year her students learn about the political process and landscape to not only be educated on the topics but to be better educated voters when they are old enough to exercise that right.
“Trying to help them get informed about the political parties and some of the current issues. As the younger voting generation they’re now the largest voting block and could really swing an election if they are registered and if they show up (to vote). And so that’s the big thing that we’ve been driving home is that you have a great opportunity. And even though politicians may not talk about the things that are important to them, they’re going to have to start listening if these younger kids show up to vote because they could really make a difference in an election.”
Crichton points out she offers to any of her students the opportunity to register to vote so when they turn 18 years old they are already registered and can cast a ballot. She adds that some of her students that registered this past week are old enough to vote in the city and school board elections.
