After a successful inaugural program with the Jefferson Public Library with the pre-teen and teenagers, an advanced class is coming up later this week.
Youth Services Librarian Bailey Mount says D&D 102 is happening on Friday from 6-8pm in the basement of the Sierra Community Theatre. Mount says D&D, or Dungeons and Dragons 101 was the beginning class introduction into tabletop gaming with character building. She points out there were about 22 students, including six high school-age youth, that attended at the end of September. Mount recalls how encouraged she was following that first program.
“So at the end of the program I asked the kids whether or not they wanted to do this for next month’s program and every single one said, ‘Yes,’ which just made me really excited because as a programming and as a librarian it’s very excited to have a program work so well and to have the kids say, ‘Yes I want to continue doing this.’ And D&D character building is not something you can get done in two hours.”
D&D 102 will include stat rolls, combat basics, and starting your own campaign. While the program is free, the concession stand will be open upstairs to purchase food and drinks. This program is for youth who are in 4th-8th grade and 9th-12th. Registration is encouraged by calling the library at 515-386-4415 or emailing them at jplstaff2@gmail.com.
