The unofficial election results are in for Greene County.

According to the Greene County Auditor’s Office a special measure for a new county jail not to exceed $10 million passed with 62-percent. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams has this to say after the passage with the jail only going up for the second time to voters, after it failed to get the 60-percent supermajority last year.

“I was hoping it would pass as it was only two to three percent (away from passing with a supermajority) last time. We did a lot more advertising this time, a lot more talks, so I was hoping that it would and I’m really glad that it did.” 

As for another contested race for Jefferson City Council, newcomer Chad Sloan and incumbent Matt Wetrich were elected with 596 and 594 votes, respectively. Sue Bose had 585 votes and Trevor Wishman had 428 votes. Former Jefferson Mayor Craig Berry was elected back as mayor with 782 votes against 298 write-ins. 

The Greene County School Board was also contested with three candidates running for two open seats. Connie Boyd and Tim Riphagen were the top two vote-getters. Riphagen thanks everyone who voted in the school board election.

“This has been a great experience, it might be a little cliche but it’s been very humbling. Just really cool to see all this come together and that enough people came out to vote for me too, and for Connie (Boyd) and Dylan (McConnell) as well.”

The special measure for the Greene County School District was to re-authorize the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) for another ten years, which also passed with 59-percent. 

Rippey mayor race was close with incumbent Dan Brubaker defeating newcomer Malachi Meri, 17-15 votes, respectively. The Paton City Council saw Jacob Bohnet, Colby Keasey and Chris Sprecher were elected over Jimmy Martin and Paul Subbert. One surprise was the Grand Junction Mayor race, where a write-in campaign won over the only name on the ballot. Dean Lyons was on the ballot and had 45 votes. The Greene County Auditor’s Office confirmed Wednesday morning that the incumbent Gerald Herrick won with a write-in campaign and received 115 of the 119 votes.
