An organization that’s been in Jefferson for a few years recently moved into a bigger space and because of that, they recently received a grant.
Midwest Mission was a recipient of $5,000 from the Jefferson Wants You Incentive Fund. Director Danille Curtis says they collect donations and with volunteer help, they use those donations to fill personal dignity kits and school supply kits, along with meal packs and weaving waterproof mats for homeless individuals. Midwest Mission helps to provide disaster relief, health, education and micro-business.
Curtis talks about the partnerships that Midwest Mission cultivates when supplies are needed from them to go to different places.
“They usually cover the shipping costs, so we have very little overhead on the shipping costs. That’s what makes what we do so affordable. So for every dollar that we spend at Midwest Mission, we can send out almost $8 in supplies because we have partners that help cover shipping expenses.”
Curtis adds that since they opened their new location on a year lease to own agreement with Greene County Development Corporation this past summer, individuals from 22 countries have volunteered.
