The Adel Public Library has a number of youth activities to finish out this week.

Patron Services Manager Amy Puck says a program that was rescheduled due to illness last week is the Homeschool Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) program where first graders and older can make lanterns and night lights out of various materials. This program will be held tomorrow from 10-11am.

Another program that happens later on Thursday is the normal Teen program from 4-5:30pm. Puck says the theme is open games where sixth through twelfth graders can play a variety of different games and snacks will be served. Puck points out how programs like this can help achieve one of their priorities as a library.

“So a big goal of ours is to reduce screen time and allow the kids to come in and hang out with their peers, and just be around people. As opposed to locked in their bedrooms and looking at their phones or their computers non-stop.”

The final program takes place on Friday for seventh through twelfth graders with Dungeons and Dragons from 2-4pm, which Puck says is full, but there is a waiting list and they hope to expand the program to include more teens beginning next year.
