Applications are still being accepted for two holiday-themed programs for less fortunate children and families in Greene County.
New Opportunities of Greene County Coordinator Teresa Lansman tells Raccoon Valley Radio applications are open to sign up for the Greene County Toys and/or the Holiday Food Baskets programs. She says Greene County Adopt-a-Family handles the Holiday Food Baskets, where about 160 families were served last year.
Lansman points out the Holiday Food Baskets is helping families provide additional food items during the two weeks of Christmas break from school that kids are back home, while the Greene County Toys programs helps to supplement some of the toys so parents can give more during Christmas. Lansman notes they helped about 350 kids last year.
“And that ranged from anywhere from one person per family up to, we did have a few families that had nine people in the household. So we try to help out the higher numbers with a few extra. But we want to make sure that everyone that’s in the household, we have them just fill out so that way we know who’s in the household to try to help out.”
Applications are available at her office at 1401 North Elm Street in Jefferson and the deadline is November 22nd to sign up. She adds donations for either program can be made to her office or to Sherry Graven in the Greene County Engineer’s Office in the Greene County Courthouse.
