
Greene County and PCM played a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girl/boy basketball doubleheader in Monroe last night. It was the first conference action of the season for both schools and PCM won the girls’ game 56-23, then Mustangs completed the sweep with a 61-45 boy’s final.
Greene County’s girls are 0-4 in the season and 0-1 in the conference while PCM improved to 3-1 and 1-0. Junior Ella Shipley scored a career best 12 points for the Rams while Addison Steenhoek of PCM led all scorers with 19 points.
The Rams led the boys’ game 20-18 in the second quarter then PCM went on a 13-0 run to end the half and lead 31-20. The Rams briefly got to within six points in the second half, but fell by 16 in the end. Gavin Van Gorp of PCM had 20 points with Jacob Wendt adding 17 for the Mustangs. Greene County was led in scoring by Gabe Ebersole with 14 points. Twelve of Ebersole’s points came in the second half as he picked up two early fouls and sat much of the first half.
The Rams stay on the road for a girl/boy doubleheader on Tuesday, Dec. 5 in Jewel vs. South Hamilton. Coverage on KG98 and streaming on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com starts at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 o’clock and the boys to follow.
Paton-Churdan lost a pair of Rolling Valley Activities Conference basketball games to Glidden-Ralston in Glidden on Friday night. The girls’ final was 57-20 and the boys’ game saw G-R win 64-35. Both P-C teams are 0-2 on the season.
Tiela Janssen had 27 points for the Wildcats in the girls’ game while six points from Grace Cullum and five for Ava Minnehan led the Rockets.
Freshman Trevon Keely had 26 of P-C’s 35 points with the other nine scored by Caden Stream. Charles Schon had 22 points for G-R.
