Greene County was in Independence on Friday and Saturday at one of Iowa’s toughest first weekend of the wrestling season tournaments. Brent Dennhardt, Gavin Scheuermann, and Gavyn Winters place in the top six in their 32 man brackets, led by Dennhardt’s second place finish. Scheuermann placed fourth, and Winters was fifth There were 33 teams from five states for the two day event.

The Rams had 10 wrestlers in the tournament and all 10 won at least two matches. Dennhardt won his first five over the two days before he fell 6-5 in the 165 lbs. championship match to a wrestler from Minnesota. Scheuermann was fourth at 157 and Winters was fifth at 120 lbs.

Greene County has had at least one finalist in each of the three seasons they’ve gone to this event. Mc Kinley Robbins was second in 2021 with Robbins and Kale Petersen both winning individual titles last season en route to both of them having undefeated State Championship seasons.
