The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.

The Board approved final plans for bridge repairs to a bridge on 310th Road over the South Raccoon River west of Dexfield Road. County Engineer Josh Sebern said that because construction crews are booked so far out now, they are opting for starting the project in spring of 2025. He also shared that he plans on attending the National Convention for County Engineers in California in April.

The Board then heard from the Guthrie County Libraries Association, and the Guthrie County First Responders Association (GCFRA). The GCFRA is a relatively new association, but is looking to do important work. Four of the five members (Levi Johnson – Panora EMS, Logan Wolf – Bagley Fire Department, Daniel Irving – Stuart Fire Department and Jotham Arber – Guthrie County Health Services Director) were on hand to present their plans, which are to train firefighters and possibly other volunteers living or working in Guthrie County to have emergency medical knowledge.

They said that this would help train individuals to give basic life saving measures to give time for an ambulance and its crew to arrive. They are set to host a class teaching these basics, and currently have funding to allow 15 individuals to take the class free of charge, except for the national certification test. Jotham Arber also mentioned that they are working to receive 501(c)3 status, so that they would be a non-profit. He added that there are currently seven of those fifteen spots still left for the training, which consists of 60 class hours and 60 field hours.

The Board then discussed employee performance reviews and how to conduct them for this year, and decided to schedule two of the four reviews for after the next Board meeting on December 12th.
