Mary J Barnett Memorial Library is getting ready to host this month’s Lunch and Learn next week.

Library Director Jerri Hawkins says that she decided to start doing the Lunch and Learns after hearing about them from other library directors, and seeing the success they’ve had. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio about the program that will be held next Wednesday.

“We have our Lunch and Learn, which is a program from the Guthrie County Veterans (Affairs) and the Veterans of Iowa, and it’s a veteran caregiver program. So that will be covering a lot of different information about veterans. And if you have any questions or need any help with anything, they will have lots of information there.”

Hawkins mentions that Mary J Barnett has hosted a variety of guest speakers, including insurance agents, healthcare professionals and bankers in the months since she decided to bring it in, and has had some great success. She adds that January’s program is already scheduled, and that the guest speaker will be from Guthrie County Public Health to talk about mental health with those that attend. Hawkins does ask that those interested in attending any Lunch and Learns call the library ahead of time to tell them, that way they can have enough food prepared for everyone.
